Kirk Ferentz (born August 1, 1965) is an American football coach. He has been the head football coach at the University of Iowa since 1999, making him the longest-tenured head coach in FBS football.
Before becoming the head coach at Iowa, Ferentz spent nine seasons as an assistant coach in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns (1993–1995) and the Baltimore Ravens (1996–1998). He also had previous college coaching experience at Iowa (1981–1989) under Hayden Fry, and at Maine and Pittsburgh.
His coaching career at Iowa has seen varying levels of success, including Big Ten Conference championships and Rose Bowl appearances. He has also faced criticism regarding offensive production, coaching hires, and the program's culture. His son, Brian Ferentz, previously served as the offensive coordinator for the Hawkeyes.
